Slag is commonly used to for driveways, parking lots, farm lanes, back filling, walking paths and landscaping. It is a byproduct of steel production and is similar in character to volcanic rocks. Steel slag is the ideal material for unpaved parking lots or driveways. The open structure prevents the water from remaining on the surface. Good alternative to gravel as a drainage material in wet areas as it is designed to let water flow through it. Slag is also a “free lime” alternative to Dolomite.
Dolomite is commonly used to for driveways, decorative paving, ornamental or concrete aggregate stone. It is a natural hardening, a mineral that is formed in limestone. It is relatively quick and easy to place in comparison with other materials. The open structure prevents the water from remaining on the surface. Good alternative to gravel as a drainage material in wet areas as it is designed to let water flow through it.
Smaller, more broken-up concrete. Recycling collects this material from demolition sites and put it through a crushing plant to create a new end product. The open structure prevents the water from remaining on the surface. Good alternative to gravel as a drainage material in wet areas as it is designed to let water flow through it.
Any loose rock or stone that is larger than sand but smaller than cobble, which means it can range from about 1/10 inch to 2.5 inches in diameter. The gravel used for driveways, however, is typically a processed product, consisting of rocks, sand, and clay. This mixture has a major advantage over plain rocks in that it compacts much better to create a stable surface. Also, while coarse gravel or stone paving is designed to let water flow through it, most gravel driveways are designed to shed water, much like solid paving materials.
